Tesla, VW, Nissan-Renault lead EV, plug-in charge in H1 2020
<p style="text-align: center;"><img title="1596601312192911.png" alt="9.png" src="/ueditor/php/upload/image/20200805/1596601312192911.png"/></p><p>Tesla has emerged as the top electric vehicle manufacturer in first six months of 2020, followed by Volkswagen Group and Renault-Nissan.<br/><br/>Amid Covid-induced disruption, the top three electric carmakers managed to sell 3.10 lakh units between January to June.<br/><br/>In the entire EV segment (Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) + Battery-operated EV), Tesla sold 1,79,050 models. Volkswagen group grabbed the second position with as many as 124,018 units sold. Renault-Nissan alliance was at third position 84,501 units sold.<br/><br/>In Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Tesla still holds the number one position. Renault-Nissan alliance sold 65,521 BEVs while the Volkswagen group sold 64,542 units. The Chinese auto major BYD is fourth on the list with 46.554 units. Interestingly, Tesla has sold more BEVs than the three others in the top list.<br/><br/>Looking only at BEVs, Tesla lost a 1% share regarding Q1, but it is still 5% above the 2019 result, while the Renault Nissan Alliance lost a significant amount of share in this second quarter, dropping from 13% in Q1, to the current 10%.<br/><br/>Which car topped the sales chart?<br/><br/>The Tesla Model 3 reigned supreme in June, more than tripling the sales of the runner-up Renault Zoe, with the French hatchback scoring its first five-digit performance, while the Tesla Model Y won its first monthly podium position, thanks to 7,500 deliveries, bringing the half year total to 13,415 units. Nissan leaf was third-most-sold EV with 23,867 deliveries. Again, the Volkswagen group seems to close up having sold 21,165 units E-golf.<br/><br/>Volkswagen-the runners up?<br/><br/>Volkswagen bagged the second position beating BMW and BYD. Volkswagen registered 14, 829 units in June, allowing it to reach the runner-up spot, while Renault had 11,499 deliveries, climbing to the sixth position in June sales performance.<br/></p>
