Sustainability is part of Ovako's DNA. It is integrated into everything the company does. Ovako's steel production is based on recycled steel scrap and Nordic fossil-free electricity, and Ovako already has a world-leading low carbon footprint ¨C 80% lower than the global average. Most of its residual products are reused, and are applied in areas such as building resilient roads. Through continuous improvements to the production process, Ovako¡¯s environmental impact is being constantly reduced and the company is always striving to cut the emissions from product manufacturing.
¡°Sustainability is an integral part of our business, and our solid efforts are paying off. In 2019, we hit our target to reduce CO2 emissions by 30%. But we are not satisfied yet, and we are continuing on our journey together with our customers, for a sustainable future with clean steel,¡± says Katarina Hundermark, head of sustainability and safety at Ovako.
During the year, Ovako will talk about the work it is doing to contribute to a more sustainable steel industry based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ovako supports the UN¡¯s Global Sustainable Development Goals and has identified the areas where the company can contribute.
